3m Arena At Mariucci Goal Horn System

THE HORN

Golden Horn for the Golden Gophers

3M Arena at Mariucci, home of the Minnesota Golden Gophers, has seen national championships and Big Ten titles, but has not heard an authentic goal horn since the arena opened in 1993. That was until October 22nd, 2026.

ArenaFX and the University of Minnesota evaluated several horn options and worked with Kahlenberg Industries to create a custom-sounding goal horn for one of college hockey’s most storied programs. With one of the horn bells measuring over 2 ft in length, the deep and powerful sound can be heard and felt throughout the arena.

GOAL HORN SYSTEM

Large Scale Horn and Large Scale System

ArenaFX designed, selected, and configured the high-flow air-delivery system required to drive the large horn. With more than 150 ft between the air system and the horn, along with an air demand of over 56 SCFM, a custom-built system was implemented to provide more than 18 seconds of available horn runtime.

Another major challenge was mounting the more than 80 lb horn nearly 80 ft above the ice in the rafters of 3M Arena. A custom-designed aluminum and steel mounting system was built specifically to secure the horn to the arena’s 8-inch structural beam.
